Introduction

In the year of 1989£¬Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, experts in giant panda from all over China and conservation organizations put forward an proposal: To organize the experts and workers engaged in the research and conservation of giant pandas and mate all the mature in-situ bred giant pandas in order to gather together the efforts and stimulate the career of giant panda conservation. With the support of Department of Construction, Forestry and Chengdu Municipal Government, China Giant Panda Breeding Technical Committee was established in Chengdu in January 1989. It became affiliated to the Associationof Chinese Zoos in June 1990.

The Purpose of the Committee:

As the professional technical organization engaged in giant panda conservation, research on breeding technology, Technical Committee helps the State Administration Chief Department to organize and coordinate scientific research. It also keeps and enlarges the now domesticated giant panda groups. The final aim of the Committee is to return the artificially bred giant pandas to wild nature to restore and strengthen the wild giant panda groups.

Tasks of the Committee:

1.to establish and administrate the pedigree of giant pandas;
2.to coordinate the mating and breeding of the sexually mature giant pandas;
3.to organize the cooperation and exchange of giant panda conservation and breeding technology;
4.to propagandize information about giant pandas, edit and publish documents, works and research these;
5.to bear the medical expense of the wild giant pandas
6.to apply for awards for those organizations and individuals who contribute a great deal to the conservation of giant panda

Organization Structure:

1.The committee members include zoologists, biologists, scientific researchers and officials from zoological gardens, natural conservation resorts, universities and colleges, scientific institutes and administration departments.
2.There are one director, three vice directors and several advisors and committee members.
3.There will annual meetings for all the committee members. The topics will be on discussing the working plan and working procedures, academic exchange, electing advisors and committee members. At the usual period, Director and Vice Directors will be in charge of daily affairs. When necessary, at the proposal of Director, temporary meetings will be held including all the members or just part of the members.
