Introduction
Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation is a non-profit organization for the study anda protection of the giant panda.Since 1987, the Foundation has been working hard on giant panda ex-situ breeding,scientific research,and domestic and inernational cooperation.It has financially supported Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding,Chengdu Zoo anda collaborative universities and institutions to carry on 87 applied and basic projects. Twenty-four of these projects have won national, provincial or departmental and municipal rewards in technical renovation and/or technical improvements. Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding,aided by the Foundation,has developed into a giant panda conservation and research centtre. To date,50 litters yielding 77 cubs have been born, of which 49 survive.
Since 1996,the Foundation has,along with the National and chengdu Developmental and Planning Committee,invested money to establish a world-leading facility "Chengdu Laboratory of Reproduction and Genetics for Endangered Wildlife". The Chengdu Giant Panda Museum,which is financially supported by the Foundation, is the first comprehensive museum in China dedicated to environmental conservation, and has developed into a national scientific education centre.
Over the past years th Foundation has been supporting and developing research cooperaion and friendships with many foreign conservation organizations ,including IUCN/SSC/CBSG, the Association of Amercan Zoos and Aquariums Association(AZA),the North England Zoological Sociey and the japanese Zoo and Aquarum Association.It has greatly promoted the development of protection action for rare and endangered species of China.
The Foundation, dedicated to the giant panda, welcomes friends ,businesses, corporations and institutions to extend a helping hand for this goal.
