In order to educate more people about wildlife, we have developed other training programs.
Environmental Education Internship
Cooperating with high schools, domestic and foreign animal organizations and NGOs, we have set up a system of intern training and providing qualified conservation educators to disseminate knowledge and information.
Conservation education programs for nature reserves
We cooperate with nature reserves in science and technology projects. We also help nature reserve staff and area school teachers with conservation education programs and capacity building through workshops, providing conservation education materials, and program and material evaluations.
Teacher Workshops
Unless children develop a sense of respect and caring for the natural environment during their early years, they are at risk of never developing such attitudes later in life. (Wilson, 1996)
We train teachers from kindergartens and primary schools, and design curricula and programs for the full spectrum of ages. We plan to expand these programs throughout Chengdu schools and partner with teacher’s colleges to teach education majors conservation education practices. Early childhood is an under-served group in conservation education worldwide. China could become the leader in this field
Tour guide workshop
Every year, thousands of people from all over the world come to Chengdu and visit giant pandas. However, most of them were not given the right information of giant pandas. For this, we have designed the tour guide training program to train guides, allowing more visitors to understand giant pandas and other wildlife, and convey conservation concepts while they are visiting the Research base.
Volunteer Program
We also cooperate with high schools, companies and different groups to develop a volunteer program and hold environmental conservation activities, such as Rabies Control& Animal Welfare, Asian Turtle Crisis, Care for Amphibians & the Natural Environment, Wildlife Conservation, Giant Pandas’ Friends, and more Through these activities, we convey the conservation concept to volunteers and encourage more people to be environmentally proactive in their daily lives.
To better conduct conservation education activities, we often send our educators to communicate with domestic and foreign zoos, educational institutes and NGOs and attend various trainings and meetings to learn advanced teaching concepts and methods.
